Funded from private and public sources, Spearfish Economic Development Corporation is one of South Dakota leading economic development groups managing economic development activities for the City of Spearfish. If a local company is planning to expand or if a business from outside the region wants to locate in Spearfish area, SEDC’s professional staff is trained to help them. SEDC partners with multiple groups throughout the region to provide high quality, critical information including available land and buildings.
Spearfish Economic Development Corporation was formed as a private non-profit development corporation in 1980. The organization was initiated by a handful of local business people who were concerned about the economy of Spearfish, and the replacement of jobs lost due to major fire at a local sawmill. The organization is managed by Board of Directors (15 voting and 2 ex-officio). In the last 10 years, SEDC has assisted over 40 firms resulting in the creation/retention of 1,104 jobs.
Working in cooperation with site selection consultants, facility managers, developers, realtors, and business owners, SEDC is the central information source for all development in the City of Spearfish, SD.
