Black Hills State University
Spearfish is home to Black Hills State University, a four-year institution providing high quality academic programs. Founded in 1883, BHSU is South Dakota’s third-largest university with nearly 4,500 students. The University offers 63 bachelor degrees, 5 master degrees, and 4 associate degrees. BHSU faculty and staff are engaged in numerous projects at the world-class Sanford Underground Research Facility. They also conduct state-of-the-art DNA research, are on the cutting edge of math and science education innovation, and collaborate with business and industry on emerging technology-related business enterprises. Black Hills State University competes at the NCAA Division II level and is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
South Dakota School of Mines & Technology
Since 1885, the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has been a national leader in preparing world-class engineers and scientists. SDSM&T is a technological university that specializes in a rigorous engineering and science curriculum, offering 23 undergraduate degrees, 13 MS degrees, and 6 PhD degrees. Award-winning undergraduate education is enhanced by graduate education and research and development in areas of critical need to South Dakota, the nation, and the world.
National American University
National American University is headquartered in Rapid City with campuses located nationwide. NAU is a private university offers a wide variety of undergraduate programs including Bachelor of Science and an Associate of Applied Science degrees. In addition to its strong business and information technology curriculum, the Rapid City location offers degree programs in nursing, veterinary technology, and paralegal studies.
University Center at Rapid City
The University Center-Rapid City (UCRC) is a partnership among South Dakota's six public universities: Black Hills State University, Dakota State University, Northern State University, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, South Dakota State University, and the University of South Dakota, working cooperatively to deliver accessible, high-quality education in one convenient location. At the University Center, students can enroll in Certificate, Associate, Bachelor, Master, or Doctoral degree programs.
Western Dakota Tech
Western Dakota Tech is the only technical institute serving the western SD region. WDT offers more than 30 programs in a variety of fields, including Business and Computers, Construction Trades, Health Services, Legal and Public Services, Manufacturing and Mechanical Trades, and Science and Technology. WDT’s Corporate Training Program provides customized training programs to meet individual business needs.
